Ok.
Thanks to Nat, I now have Gmail! And because I now have Gmail, I also have a couple of invites. So, let me know if you too want to have 1GB of email storage.
I must say, so far I haven't noticed the ads at all. One of the key features of Gmail is that it 'reads' your email and sends you ads related to whatever you're discussing in the email. So if we're talking about the Giants, they could send me ads for baseball tickets, Giants gear etc etc. But, thanks to my amazing ability to scan out white noise (I never ever see the ads in newspapers) that feature is largely useless. I hope they're not paid on a clickthrough basis!
One of the nicer things about Gmail, apart from the 1Gb of storage, is that it arranges your email into threads. So, if you and I are having an email conversation instead of having 10 emails in my inbox, I have just one. That is cool.
Oh, and when you delete anything, there's a message that says "Who needs to delete anything when you have 1000MB of storage?". Which is very true, and I can't even begin to imagine how I wil ever use that much space. Add on to that the (free!) 100MB from Yahoo, the 80MB from work and the (measly!) 2MB from Hotmail - which had better get its act together if it wants to retain users and compete effectively - that means I have 1182MB of storage! I suddenly feel very... powerful. Hah!
