I rode my bike
for the first time yesterday. I had to crawl from my comfy bed at 0630 to get to East Coast by 0730 so that I could get onto my bike and ride for almost 18km. Woohoo.
It's fairly fun, but I think there's something wrong with the positioning of my seat 'cos my neck is all sore from being hunched up. Either that or I don't know how to ride a racer. Still, I'm looking forward to biking again this weekend.
Other sports news today:
1) We're 9-0 for the season. 3 more games left before I hang up my glove for the next few months. Sigh.
2) The Yankees and the As are 2.5 games out of 1st place in their respective divisions, with the As being 1.5 games up on the Yankees for the wild card. The As have been on a tear lately, and with 2 more months in the regular season to go this should be fairly exciting. As for the Giants, despite being 13 games under .500 they're only 5.5 games out of first place, which only demonstrates how weak the NL West is this year. But with 65 games left to play anything is still possible. So go teams!
Posted by scrabbyfoo at August 1, 2005 11:40 AMHmm, when riding a racer you have to try to keep your back as straight as possible, and try not to hunch at all or look down when you are cycling. You might also want to try moving your seat forward or backwards so that most of your weight is not leaning on the handlebars. Also, make sure that when you are pedaling, your feet are horizontal when your legs are extended - never cycle with your toes pointing downwards cos you can injure your knees that way.
That's my 2 cents worth; gleaned mainly from getting nagged at by SC for my bad cycling posture over the years! It took me a while to fix all that. I just got a road bike in the US; and my seat is for the first time higher than my handlebars! :p Do you have cycling cleats and an aerobar?
Thanks for the tips Squeaky! I moved the seat forward and lowered the height. Hopefully these measures will help when I go again this weekend.
But what does it mean when your seat is higher than the handlebars?
Posted by: May at August 4, 2005 02:32 PMOh, if you look at the bike from the side, the seat is higher than the handlebars. It just means you have to bend down lower, which is more aerodynamic but can be uncomfortable if your back is not strong. Most of the pro-cyclists have their seats many inches higher, which looks too intense for me! Mine are actually about the same height, I guess. Have just put some bike pics on my blog :P
