The A's
propelled themselves into first place in the AL West today thanks to a heads-up play by Jason Kendall.
With 2 outs in the ninth and runners on 2nd and 3rd (Jason Kendall being the runner on 3rd), the Angels' pitcher took his eye off the ball as it was being thrown back to the mound to him and dropped the ball. Which allowed Jason Kendall to take off for home and score the winning run.
That, my friends, is why you should always be paying attention. There's a video of the play in the link above, so if you have a non-gimpy broadband connection (unlike mine) it's good viewing.
In other sports news, 2 Mets outfielders collided in the outfield when they both dived for the ball. One guy has a concussion, the other sustained multiple fractures. I haven't worked up the courage to see the video playback - on MLB.com it says "not for the faint of heart" - but you can read about it here, with the video link, if you want.
To quote CTG: "Ouch."
Happy Friday everyone!
