Almost at the end of a long work day
in which I only really woke up and started working at 4pm. I spent most of the morning pretending to work while actually dozing. (It's times like this I wish I had long hair to cover my face.)
Which brings me to the best and worst things about working in an open plan office. Best things: collegial atmosphere, easy exchange of ideas, and ability to listen in on gossip. Worst things: almost impossible to sneak a nap unless you pretend to work, too much noise going on sometimes when you're on a conference call, and ability to listen in on very private conversations that you really really don't want to hear.
And it always seems like whenever there's a private conversation in which things start to get ugly, everything in the office quietens down so you can hear almost everything. At moments like those it just gets so obvious that everyone can hear what's going on and is just pretending to not be able to hear. Last week one such incident happened and I got so uncomfortable I started making unnecessary phone calls just to make some noise in the office; when my friend called on my handphone I could have wept with relief since it gave me an excuse to leave the office.
In other news, I rode my bike for the second time on Sunday. Woohoo. I'm still fucking slow but at least my neck didn't ache as badly as the first time. The posture's gonna take some getting used to though.
And, I made mooncakes on Sunday. For the lucky few, mooncakes will be delivered soon. For the not-so-lucky few, if you really really want then drop me a line.
Ok time to start packing up. Yet another work day goes down the drain... :D
