Day 1: Scrabby Goes To Shanghai

Yo folks.

Here I am in Shanghai, barely a week after I just got back from HK. Once I get through this trip I'm hoping everything will be smooth sailing for the rest of the year. Not that there's much left of the year, but if I can make it through the killer schedule for this trip I can see myself getting through the rest of the year.

So, anyhow, on the flight up to Shanghai, I was flipping through the channels available and I happened upon something fairly interesting. Apparently in some part of rural England, there's an annual cheese rolling contest. What happens is, they roll a block of cheese down a rather steep slope, and then the competitors start running/slipping/rolling/falling down the slope. First person to get down the slope, which looks like it's about 100 meters in length at about a 45 degree incline, wins the cheese. They do this a couple of times and then everyone goes home happy, some bearing cheeses, some bearing head injuries/broken bones/sprained limbs. It's kinda bizzare to see people tumbling down a slope like dolls.

Another interesting snippet: in the breakfast menu for room service, the hotel offers "The New Yorker's Big Breakfast" and this is one huge meal. Get this. The breakfast offers OJ/milk, lamb cutlets, crispy bacon, sausage, poached egg with potatoes, toast with butter and preserves, coffee AND a 4oz grilled tenderloin of beef. Who in NY eats this for breakfast?!?! This is like breakfast, lunch AND dinner all rolled into one, for the princely sum of RMB180 which is approximately 22 USD. Maybe I should order this in preparation for tomorrow's schedule which doesn't seem to have lunch included...
