Today,
I headed over to Berkeley for a quick visit. It's fair to say that things haven't changed one bit.
Driving down University Avenue and seeing familiar sights like the pink Taiwan Fandian and Plearn Thai across the street, Videomaniacs (which I never thought would survive this long), the car wash that I used to visit, Au Coquelet and Crepes-A-Go-Go, it brought a smile back to my face. After parking the car near my old apartment complex (it's amazing what wonders are wrought by a fresh coat of paint) I headed over to campus for a stroll around. Aside from a bit of construction here and there, things were almost exactly as I had left them.
It's good to be back. Not just so that I can revisit old haunts, but also because I get to taste the food that I've been missing for almost 6 years. I started off my food tour at Durant Food Court, where the stalls were the same as before. At Kingpin Donuts I ordered a custard donut, specially for my mom because when she first came to Berkeley with me she ate one of those everyday. The guy behind the counter made me a special order when he learnt that I had come all the way from Singapore.
After walking around campus, I headed over to Sufficient Grounds for a club sandwich which I'm saving for breakfast tomorrow. Lunch was a Persian burger from Bongo Burger, which I savoured by the sea at the Berkeley Marina with a book in hand.
The only downer is, I still have a ton of things on my to-try-again list. Darn it. Next time I have to stay for at least a week. That, and become a cow with 4 stomachs so I can eat everything I want.
*SOB!* =(
