Thunderstorms and Lightning, Very Very Frightening

I like thunderstorms and lightning displays. I like hearing the rumble and boom of distant thunder, watching the rain pour down and seeing the lightning dance about the sky in what is essentially nature's fireworks display.

At 35000 feet up in the sky, that display is a totally different experience. If you've ever experienced a thunderstorm while flying, even if from a distance, you'll know what I mean. It is infinitely more beautiful watching lightning illuminate the clouds from within; the colours are different, sometimes a dull red compared to the silvery flash that we see from below. And the beauty and mystery is enhanced by the fact that it takes place in almost total silence so all you see from the window are silent flashes of light.

Still, it's scary to think that you're in a metal container with huge bolts of electricity somewhere in the vicinity. It's almost too close for comfort. Almost like someone is saying, yeah you can fly but I can bring you down just like that.
